is there an admin here?
by emburger (emburger)

Hi, sorry not to post specifically on PC.  I am wondering if there is still an active administrator for this group?  I have an old livejournal account which I'm trying to delete, but I've lost my password and Livejournal is refusing to delete my old profile.  Anyways, if an administrator is here, I'd like to ask them to unfriend (or whatever) my old user name from the group (it's showing up in google searches which is a problem for employment reasons).  Admin, if you are around, please email me!!!

Thank so much, and good luck to all of you with your pc apps!

The Dream.

My Dream is to change the world for the better. I currently think that our society is very selfish, materialistic and disconnected. This world is lacking so much love, unity, art, creation and faith. I feel as though people have forgotten the meaning of unconditional love, true happiness, true beauty, nature & so much more. Im here to remind the world. All it takes is one. This year, Im dedicating an entire year to the world. Im dedicating 365 of my life with acts of goodness for humanity. Everyday I will blog about my expierence of that day in the hopes of inspiring the world to do better & be on the pursuit of changing peoples lives!I know all it takes is passion, drive, a warm heart, one HUGE Dream, & I will never STOP!

I am currently looking to volunteer at a foreign country.

3 Where are you going to serve/are you serving/want to serve: I'm flexible..
4 When are you leaving/did you leave: thinking about joining
5 What are you going to be doing/are you doing/want to do:

I've been researching volunteer websites for several countries for over a year now, until someone mentioned the Peace Corps at work a few days ago. I checked out the website and I'm really excited about the idea of working, traveling, and helping in other countries. I'm not sure if I want to wait until I graduate (i have a year left of school) or applying now. I'm almost 31, and single so I don't want to wait. Any advice?

Mood: confused

so i am filling out my application and am on the section about drugs and alcohol. i am not into drugs or anything like that but i did get an underage drinking ticket when i was 20 (now 23). do i need to report that? i just plead guilty and paid the ticket fine. specifically the questions i am concerned with are : 1. Have you ever been arrested for, charged with, or convicted of any offense(s) related to alcohol or drugs? and/or 2. Have you ever been found guilty of an offense under section 404 of the Controlled Substance Act (21 U.S.C. 844), while under the age of 21?

i dont really know what section 404 is or anything... and is the fact i got an underage drinking ticket when i was 20 going to hurt me?

i'd appreciate the help, thanks so much!

Books For Cameroon

Hello! Peace Corps community!

I am currently a volunteer in Cameroon coordinating the Books For Cameroon project that will bring 30 bilingual libraries to the country. Books For Africa is sending a 40-ft container with 22,000 books for Phase I, and our goal is to raise the remaining $8,000 by the end of September. We are desperately seeking support from all possible areas. I hope you will consider making a small ($5) contribution to the project and promote it to the greater Peace Corps community. We are fighting poverty with literacy, one $5 latte at a time! Thank you for your support! -Wendy

Womens clothes

So I've been thinking about joining the Peace Corps. However, I understand that the clothes that I wear, as an average American girl, are inappropriate for most countries. I don't have a particular country in mind yet, but I was wondering what are some guidelines for appropriate clothing, and also any websites that sell clothes that are appropriate for the PC. I want to look appropriate for whatever country I serve, yet I still want to wear something that can be cute.

*** Okay so my boyfriend just told me that maybe I was getting such crappy answers is because some of you may think that I'm only into how I look, and not enough into the helping. That's not it at all, I understand a ton about PC, I've been researching everything I could get my hands on for two years, this is just one aspect of it that I don't have very many answers to. My goal in joining the PC is to make a difference in someones life other than my own.  Whether I get in or not, I would still like this information. Don't read into my question too much, all I want to know about, are some examples of things that you, as a woman in the PC, would wear in the country you are serving. That's it. And casual clothing is not a viable answer to me, because casual can be misconstrued into many definitions. Thank you for taking the time to answer.
*** One thing that I really want to know is about sleeve lengths, and dress/skirt lengths, and most importantly neck lines ( I have a very large chest).

Hey everyone!

I'm Sarah and I am extremely curious in the peace corps.  It's been on my mind for the last year or so, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for it. I've got a two year degree in education under my belt and currently working on my four. The only problem I could see with joining would be bad allergies. I feel as if I'm not contributing to anything here and I've been searching for more. Someone told me about peace corps. Any advice on joining and tips if I do?

Hello, everyone!

1. Name or Nick Name: Lauren

2. Education (show your school pride, list major/s and minor/s) Where are you at in the process? I've got a BS in Wildlife and Fisheries Science from Tennessee Technological University, and I am currently finishing my MS in Biology at Eastern Kentucky University. I haven't started the application process yet, just gathering . information and trying to psych myself up to apply (I've wanted to apply for years, but other stuff has always intervened). EDIT: Actually, I'm working on getting the application finished. Just have to write the essays and really think hard about exactly where I want to go and do.

3. Where are you going to serve/are you serving/want to serve: I'm definitely willing to go pretty much anywhere they want to send me, but I'm leaning towards the Pacific Islands or Africa. But that changes pretty often!

4. When are you leaving/did you leave: As I haven't even started the application process yet, no time soon, but I would like to go in the next year or so, after I get my thesis finished. I've noticed that some people have said that certain programs have certain travel dates. Does anyone know where I could find those online?

5. What are you going to be doing/are you doing/want to do: I'm wanting to focus on wildlife management, ecology, or environmental stuff, but who knows? I'll do whatever they assign to me.

I am going to Kenya this summer and my travel brocure suggested I not wear tank tops etc but it's hot there! So wow do women in their early 20's tend to dress in Kenya?
